Meet Evolve's teachers
Lara Raven Von Maydell
Lara is a co-facilitator of the adult classes, children's classes and one of the core founders at Evolve. Lara’s love and passion for dance started at the young age of three. Her affinity for movement and storytelling through dance led her to dance at a highly competitive level. In her early adult life, Lara decided to leave the dance world entirely after getting seriously injured and needing to leave the intensity in general.

Some years later she found herself on Salt Spring, where the slow pace and connection to the people and the planet healed something for her around art and dance. Evolve was started from a vision Lara had one night, wanting to step back into teaching dance from a more holistic place, where women could explore storytelling and movement in their bodies in a safe way. She always was inspired to create a dance studio that taught technique while still letting students feel confident and proud of their learning.
Evolve has been her passion project for the last four years where she gets to bring her art and big creative ideas to stages, while also facilitating and leading women through deep soul encountering journeys.
Outside of dance Lara has recently graduated from a counselling program, and is starting to get into work within the field of mental health and addictions. Lara has a deep love for dogs, and working with dogs. You might spot her with a pack of dogs on the trails around the island! Lara also is into the martial art path and specifically jiu jitsu where she loves to let out her fire and intensity. One of Lara’s favourite things about dance is that it blends a lot of hard work with grit with the flowy and poetic artform.
Jasmin, co-facilitator of both adult and children's classes, is a lover of dance, creative expression, ritual and storytelling. She has danced for 27 years, at both competitive and professional levels. She has taught dance to people ages 2-75 in styles of jazz, tap, contemporary, hiphop, and lyrical.
After being immersed in the competitive dance world for many years, she now finds her joy in the SOUL and alchemical nature of dance. She believes dance is a birthright, and that we all have the body of a dancer. She loves co-creating pieces that tell stories, evoke emotion and leave the dancers and audience moved and changed by the experience.
Outside of Dance, Jasmin has volunteered and worked with children, youth and women, and in 2017, acquired her BA in Child and Youth Care. She has also run women’s circles, and was a Nature-Based Mentor and Nature-Based Counsellor.
Jasmin feels that Nature connection and our innate creativity are essential aspects of awakening our human spirit and supporting the journey of connecting with ourselves and with each other. She feels that part of her service work here on the planet is to hold safe space for people to tell their stories, discover their gifts and gently unravel the unique beauty they have to offer the world.
Jasmin is known for her compassionate heart, peaceful and goofy nature, and her deep love and reverence for the Great Mystery that connects us all.
